During the cheese-making season, from 10 May to 10 October, the herds of cows occupy the pastures of the Vaudois Alps and alpine foothills. This region, which extends from the Diablerets Glacier to the vineyards on the slopes of Lake Geneva, is crossed by hundreds of kilometres of signposted trails, thus offering ramblers a vast choice of itineraries.
Due to their location near to the conurbations of the Lake Geneva basin, the communes of the Vaudois Alps and alpine foothills enjoy numerous local services and a high-quality environment. The Vaudois Alps and alpine foothills are also a favourite tourist destination both in summer and in winter, with a wide choice of activities on offer and with well-known resorts such as Château-d’Oex,Rougemont,Rossinière,Les Diablerets, Leysin, Gryon and Villars.
